MEET THE DOCTOR
Dr. Neal Berger, MD is an orthopedic surgeon for Dignity Health Medical Group / Sequoia in Redwood City, California. He specializes in treating sports injuries and degenerative conditions of the knee, hip, and shoulder. The most common surgeries he performs are arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, including ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction and rotator cuff repair, and joint replacement surgery of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also commonly treats traumatic tendon injuries and fractures. He sees patients in Redwood City, San Jose and San Francisco.
Dr. Berger attended the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate education. He received his medical degree from the University of California – Davis where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society. He did his orthopedic surgery residency at UCLA (University of California – Los Angeles) where he was elected as one of the Chief Residents in his graduating class. Dr. Berger has worked as an assistant team physician for the San Francisco Giants. He has presented locally and nationally on the topics of shoulder instability and the effects of prior surgery on Division I NCAA athlete’s careers, future injuries and functional testing.
Dr. Berger is a team physician for Santa Clara University and is the head team physician for multiple high schools on the San Francisco peninsula.
Dr. Berger employs a conservative approach to the management of his patients, always attempting to treat his patients first with the least invasive treatments possible. He has had great success restoring patients’ function with both non-operative, as well as, surgical treatments.
